Our Programme
This programme aims to train and disseminate knowledge and know-how to a diverse group of people: those working for the food industries, government, research or non-profit organisations and in the agriculture food chain who carry responsibility for the control of different aspects of food safety in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other countries.
Scholarship
Entrance Scholarship and Distinction and Merit Scholarships are awarded to the outstanding students.
Field Trip
Visit to food manufacturing companies in Hong Kong or Guangdong will be arranged.
Career Opportunities
Graduates will be equipped with a solid knowledge base in chemical, life and analytical science to support their career developments in food analysis and food safety management and further education in related fields.

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded one of the followings:

  • Master of Science in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management with Distinction,
  • Master of Science in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management with Merit, or
  • Master of Science in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management

An interim award of Postgraduate Diploma will be awarded to those who have completed all the core courses specified in the Calendar/Bulletin in the year of enrolment to the programme except for the Dissertation, and also have completed the necessary number of elective course(s) to make up a minimum of 18 units. Grade attained for all the courses must be C- or above and the cumulative GPA should be 2.50 or above. Students with the interim award are allowed to apply to complete the MSc in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management programme within a period of five years from graduation with the Postgraduate Diploma. In such circumstance, the students should surrender their Postgraduate Diploma. Students intending to return and resume their studies will be subject to the availability of the MSc in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management programme, and they may be required to take extra units if the MSc in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management programme structure has undergone subsequent changes.

Requirements for the degree

Master of Science in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management

  • a grade of no less than a C- (Grade Point 1.67) for all the programme courses
  • a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above

Note: the old grades of retake courses will be replaced by the new ones, and the old grades will not be included in the GPA calculation.

Master of Science in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management with Distinction

In addition to the basic requirements specified for the MSc degree, a distinction may be awarded to a student who has attained an overall cumGPA of 3.67 or above, with no course grade below B- and no repeated courses.

Master of Science in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management with Merit

In addition to the basic requirements specified for the MSc degree, a student must obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.40-3.66.
